The Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center (OMIC) is a collaborative hub advancing modern manufacturing through applied research, advanced technology, and workforce development.

OMIC is on a mission to develop and apply advanced metals manufacturing technologies and processes for industrial competitive advantage and academic growth. Most training programs for career and technical education (CTE) take a heavily guided approach where they give step by step instructions. This approach, while being effective at delivering specific information, fails to train for problem solving skills which are vitally important for skills transfer and motivation. In contrast, experts at Oregon Tech are taking an innovative approach to apply the HyperSkill platform to creating a VR course that is based on problem solving. This project will create 5 high quality VR simulations focusing on core machining skills. A distinguishing aspect of the project is its emphasis on leveraging data to deeply understand the learner and support them in their exploratory learning process.

This simulation focuses on testing your knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Ensure your safety by correctly equipping yourself with the required gear. This simulation aims to reinforce practical application of safety protocols.

LOTO

This is a detailed narrative of a lockout/tagout (LOTO) training scenario using a Haas CNC machine. The scenario includes both visual and audio cues to guide the learner through the LOTO process, including shutting down the electrical power, air pressure, and hydraulic pressure. The scenario takes place in a lab environment with a Haas CNC machine, an electrical control box with a gate switch, pressure gauges for pneumatic and hydraulic shutoffs, and audio sounds to simulate each event. The learner must successfully shut off each section of the system or they will be directed back to the previous LOTO video training for a refresh.
